Chronic Pain

The underlying factors affecting both acute and chronic pain are numerous and often include inadequate healing, uncontrolled inflammation, tissue degeneration, toxin accumulation, structural and physiological imbalances, as well as, tissue acidity and at times emotional influences. Hence a comprehensive approach to pain management is required to ensure all aspects are covered.

Our doctors Pain Management Program identifies the underlying cause of the current pain as well as identify the obstacles to overcoming that pain. The program starts by investigating the source of the current pain via in depth questioning, physical examination, and in some cases laboratory testing.

There is often some lifestyle and dietary components that are addressed to prevent worsening of the current condition as well as the start of supplemental support to aid in the repair and recovery of the source of pain. Furthermore, more advanced therapies such as Bowen Therapy, Prolotherapy, Acupuncture, Biopuncture, and Neural Therapy are used in order to expedite the repair of the underlying damage as well as treatment of the pain. Once the pain has been managed, steps are taken to promote the prevention of future pain and maintenance of a pain free life.

If there is prolonged pain or no concrete physical explanation or relief offered through massage, chiropractor or other manual methods, there can be another explanation; In his books; Healing Back Pain, The Mind-Body Prescription and The Epidemic of Mind-Body Disorders, Dr. John Sarno explains how pain symptoms can be directly impacted through the nervous system and unconscious emotional content.

Those disorders/pain conditions that are directly induced by unconscious emotions include: Chronic Pain, Carpel tunnel Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, ulcers, Hernias, Irritable Bowel, Bon Spurs, Bulging Disses, Herniated Disks, Knee, Shoulder, back or knee strain/pain or diagnosed tears and Migraines.

Dr. Sarno had traced the repression of emotion through the autonomic-peptide branch of the central nervous system (Sarno, 2006). (Peptides are molecules that participate in a system of intercommunication between the brain and the body) Dr. Sarno says:

“The altered physiology in this process that creates the symptoms and physical pain appears to be a mild,
localized reduction in blood flow to a small region or specific body structure, such as a spinal nerve,
resulting in a state of mild oxygen deprivation.
 (Sarno, 2006, p.14-15)

The result is the sensation of pain or fatigue.

The tissues that may be targeted by the brain include the muscles of the neck, shoulders, back or buttons; any spinal or peripheral nerve and any tendon. As a consequence, the symptoms may occur virtually anywhere in the body.” (Sarno, 2006, p.14-15)   In short, what Dr. Sarno is saying is that many types of symptoms are caused by mild and benign (meaning harmless) oxygen deprivation to a specific area of the body, and brought on by stress through the central nervous system through repressed emotion.

If you have tried most physical methods for alleviating the pain and/or have had prolonged stress, grief or other difficult life situations that you may not have fully integrated, grieved or healed from, exploring  Recall Healing or the INside-OWT Process,  may be the most effective way to get at the underlying causes of your pain.

Depending on your Extended Health Program, some or all of the cost to these packages can be covered under Naturopathy or Acupuncture.

To maximize the effectiveness of your initial visit, it is suggested to book additional time to perform an advanced treatment modality to boost the repair and recovery from pain. If interested in acupunture, an additional 45 min is recommended, otherwise for biopuncture and neural therapy an additional 30 min is recommended.

If you’re unsure, book an additional 45 min to ensure enough time for an advanced treatment, in which the treatment of choice can be determined within the core visit.
